Early Prevention

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the establishment of a dental home should be no later than 12 months of age. Along with the AAPD, we recommend a dental visit by age 1 so that we can allow your child to be screened for early risk factors that can contribute to dental disease. Also, by having an early visit, we can give your child the best chance of avoiding dental problems in the future.

At the first visit, your child’s medical history will be thoroughly reviewed and discussed. All aspects of oral care will be reviewed, including a demonstration of proper brushing and flossing techniques. The doctor and staff will also discuss with you the diet at home, and the role that nutrition plays in the cycle of dental decay. A personalized caries risk assessment will then be performed along with a dental examination by Dr. Kapadia. The dentist may also review the possibility of dental trauma at a young age, its potential outcomes, and ways to prevent injury to primary (baby) and permanent (adult) teeth.

Our caring and professional staff will work with you and your child to make their first visit as enjoyable as possible. For first visits, we encourage parents to stay in the room with the child for the entire visit to create a comforting and non-threatening experience.
